Runway Gen 4 Turbo supports prompt-guided image-to-video generation, transforming a single source image into a short animated clip with controlled subject and camera motion.
With Runway Gen 4 Turbo on Pollo API, you can integrate image-to-video generation into your applications, with configurable clip duration and aspect ratios ranging from square to ultrawide.
Key Features of Runway Gen 4 Turbo API
Still-to-Motion Animation
Generate an animated clip from a single source image while preserving its primary subject, composition, and framing and applying prompt-guided motion.
Fast Turnaround
Support faster image-to-video generation for rapid concept testing, iterative workflows, and applications that process multiple generation requests.
Prompt-Directed Movement
A text prompt guides scene motion, including camera movement, subject actions, and environmental effects.
Flexible Framing
Support widescreen, vertical, square, and ultrawide 21:9 aspect ratios for videos intended for different screens, platforms, and placement formats.
Reproducible Runs
Support more reproducible generations and controlled variation across repeated requests.
Use Cases of Runway Gen 4 Turbo API
Illustration Animation: Convert a hand-drawn or digital illustration into a short animated clip with prompt-guided movement such as drifting, breathing, or subtle subject motion.
Concept Art in Motion: Animate an environment render or character design to preview subject movement, camera direction, and scene composition during early production workflows.
Photo Reanimation Apps: Convert a single storyboard frame into a moving shot to evaluate camera movement, action, and pacing before production.
Storyboard Previsualization: Turn a single storyboard frame into a moving beat, helping directors and editors sense pacing early in a pipeline.
Ultrawide Display Content: Produce 21:9 animated shots for signage, hero banners, panoramic displays, and other ultrawide presentation formats.
Rapid A/B Motion Tests: Generate multiple motion variations from the same source image to compare camera paths, subject actions, and environmental effects.
Vertical Social Clips: Animate a still image into a 9:16 video for short-form feeds, stories, and mobile content workflows.
How to Use Runway Gen 4 Turbo API
Get an API Key: Create a Pollo API account and generate your API key from the developer dashboard.
Choose the Model: Send a request to the Runway Gen 4 Turbo endpoint at /generation/runway/runway-gen-4-turbo.
Add Your Inputs: Provide an image URL and a prompt, then set length (5 or 10 seconds) and aspectRatio such as 16:9, 9:16, or 21:9.
Generate and Retrieve: Submit the task, poll the returned task status, and download the finished video once processing succeeds.
Prompting Best Practices for Runway Gen 4 Turbo API
Because the source image defines the scene, focus the prompt on subject motion, camera movement, and environmental effects rather than repeating visual details already present in the image.
A Simple Prompt Formula
Source image subject + specific motion or action + camera behavior + environmental effect or mood
What You Should Notice
Start With A Clean Image: Use a sharp, well-composed source image with clearly visible subjects and details to provide a stronger reference for animation.
Describe Motion, Not Content: The image already defines the subject, so focus the prompt on movement, camera behavior, timing, and pacing.
Direct The Camera: Specify a push-in, slow pan, or static shot to guide the camera path and framing throughout the clip.
Match Aspect To Placement: Select an aspect ratio that matches the target screen or platform before generating.
Reuse A Seed: Use the same seed to support more reproducible outputs when testing prompt or motion variations.
Example Prompts
Animated Illustration
"A detailed ink illustration of a koi pond gently comes alive, water rippling as the fish glide beneath lily pads, soft reflections shimmering, slow overhead camera drift, calm and meditative mood."
Concept Art Reveal
"A sprawling canyon city render awakens, banners fluttering between towers, distant airships drifting across the sky, a slow forward camera push revealing depth, warm late-afternoon glow settling over the rooftops."
Product Still to Motion
"A ceramic pour-over coffee set on a wooden counter, steam curling upward from the cup, faint condensation forming on the glass, gentle side-lit camera pan, quiet morning kitchen atmosphere."
Portrait in Motion
"A studio portrait of a musician holding a violin subtly moves, hair shifting in a light breeze, fingers adjusting on the strings, shallow-focus slow push-in, soft rim light, intimate and steady mood."

Runway Gen 4 Turbo API FAQs
What is Runway Gen 4 Turbo?
Runway Gen 4 Turbo is Runway's speed-focused video model that animates a still image with a text prompt, producing short moving clips for creative and image-to-video workflows.
Does Runway Gen 4 Turbo API need an input image?
Yes. Each generation requires an image URL plus a prompt, so it works best as an image-driven animation model rather than pure text-to-video.
What clip lengths and aspect ratios are supported?
You can generate 5 or 10 second clips and choose framing from 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, or ultrawide 21:9 per request.
Why is it called Turbo?
Turbo signals its priority on faster generation, making it well suited to iteration, drafts, and high-volume pipelines where quick turnaround matters more than long renders.
How much control do I have over the motion?
The prompt directs movement, camera behavior, and effects layered over your image, and a seed value lets you reproduce or refine a result you like.
Why run Runway Gen 4 Turbo through Pollo API?
Pollo API provides access to Runway Gen 4 Turbo alongside other video models through a single API, simplifying model evaluation, integration, and deployment.
